I found Ted's Transmission on Google, and first of all, I want to thank Marvin one more time. I've been dealing with transmission problems with my car for a few months. Before bringing it here, I took it to 3–4 different repair shops, including a Hyundai dealership. Despite explaining the issue very clearly, no one was able to identify the problem. In fact, one transmission shop told me I needed to replace the torque converter and flush the transmission fluid, and the cost would be almost $3000. It felt like they either didn't care to properly diagnose the problem or were trying to rip me off! Marvin took my car for a test drive and immediately noticed the problem. He told me it was definitely a transmission issue, but he also admitted he didn't have much experience with this specific model and wanted to do some research before making any recommendations. That level of honesty is rare, and I really appreciated it. I gave him my contact information and left. On my way home, Marvin called me and said, "Hey, your car has less than 100,000 miles on it, so it may still be covered under the manufacturer's powertrain warranty. Since the issue is with the transmission, it could be covered.

Marvin and his brother Corey run the business as one should be run. What they tell you is what you will receive. They are family men who provide an excellent transmission replacement & transmission service. They also include a warrantee and do right by their customers. I will recommend them to anyone in need of transmission assistance. -Collin

Ted’s Transmission is a GREAT shop and Marvin was AWESOME and VERY kind! I am not from the Raleigh area and was visiting and my transmission went out in the middle of a parking lot! I called and they said to bring it in they would see what they could do and if possible, it would be done that night otherwise they would take me to a car rental place. I got towed there about an hour before they closed and Marvin looked at it as soon as it was off the truck and was able to get it fixed shortly thereafter as it was just a linkage problem. I was so grateful for their assistance as well as their honesty because they could’ve said I needed a whole new transmission or other expensive repairs and there would’ve been nothing I could’ve done except get the work done as I live several hours away. He showed me the broken part and how it all fit together and worked as well as showing me the new part he was putting in and that it was actually in there AND the price was very reasonable even with it being an emergency situation. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend their services!! :)

I HIGHLY recommend Ted’s Automatic Transmission. Marvin, who runs the shop, was very helpful to work with and helped quickly diagnose some sticking issues I was having and made service recommendations to remedy the issue. He even offered insight on what products I should use if I wanted to do the service myself if I needed to save some money. After they completed the recommended service at a fair price, my transmission is running smoothly again! While I certainly hope I won’t have to return too soon, I’ll absolutely use Ted’s again for any transmission needs.

2014 Forester (CVT) The dealer charged $185 to "diagnose" the symptoms of my CVT. The rep was friendly and provided his best guess when I gave him a list of the codes. Possible charge: $2600 I decided to get a second opinion. Two separate shops recommended I visit Ted’s Auto Transmissions, and I’m so glad I did. I spoke with Marvin, who reviewed the same list of codes I had given the dealer. From his on free code check, he quickly determined the issue wasn’t what the dealer had thought — and he was right. Marvin and his team clearly have years of valuable, hands-on experience. They’re truly a diamond in the rough. Their father, "Ted", taught them well. While the repair wasn’t free, it was done professionally, accurately, and at about 60% less than the dealer’s quote — with no unnecessary diagnostic fees. Marvin even took the time to explain other transmission designs and systems, which showed just how knowledgeable he is. The problem was solved, the transmission is operating smoothly. If I ever need transmission work again, I’ll gladly drive the 20 miles back to Ted’s Auto Transmissions. Highly recommended!
